Perkins Prima M60 RPM question

Good morning engineering types, I have a Perkins Prima M60 and can't find any reference for the high idle RPM on the internet.

I was motoring this weekend and I could get 2400 RPM. I wanted to get an idea of my high idle RPM to the max RPM under load. I took the engine out of gear to see what the maximum RPM would be and it roared past 4800 rpm. That's not right...it was way to high and it should be within 10% of max rpm so I need to address the prop size. But first I need to set the fuel pump to the High Idle RPM for the M60.

The manual says there should be a data plate on the Bosch fuel pump that gives me this number but there is nothing on mine. I called Perkins and they can't find the number I need to use to set the fuel pump correctly. The engine data I find on line says that the engine produces 59 HP at 4000 rpm so I am thinking that that is the right number.

If anyone has a Perkins Prima M60 and could run up your engine and tell me what your high idle is set to I would appreciate the feed back.

Re: Perkins Prima M60 RPM question

Hi there, I have a Prima M50, engine, and my high RPM is set at 3600. The M60 is almost the exact same engine with only a few minor differences. The engine manual is for all 3 Prima engines the M50, M60 and the M80t, The 4000 RPM number might be right for the M60, and would probably make a M50 into a M60 simply by increasing the power output by increasing the RPM's. My boat engine without load will produce the 3600 RPM's but under load at full throttle will only produce 3200 RPM's. I hope this helps.

Re: Perkins Prima M60 RPM question

I have done some research and have come up with nothing. I looked through the user's handbook for the M60 and looked in the workshop manual and the only RPM given is the Idle RPM which is 820. Sorry

Re: Perkins Prima M60 RPM question

The original specs of this engine claim 59HP at 4,000RPM.
