Perkins engines

Any comments on twin diesel Perkins T.6.3455M on a 40' trawler?
Reliability? Maintenance/repair problems. How long might they last?

Thanks.

Re: Perkins engines

Ive seen these model Perkins in fishing boats go 10,000 hours before anything major was done to them ! but they were very well maintained !! oil changed every 150 to 200 hours, bi yearly inspections rack run once a year ect ! if they have been taken care of they will last well ! have a oil inspection done to see whats up ! if ya don't have a mech to do it for ya , take a COLD sample of both your engine oil and the tranny oil and take it to a Catapiller Dealer and have it cked!! it will tell ya where your at !! also ck the exaust when cold started and see if any smoke comes out and how long it takes to go away ! just sayin Perkins are work horses!!
