Believe it or not but in the Pratt & Whitney manual for the R-1340
engine it has introducing Bon-Ami powder into the induction system when the
engine is running as a way to deal with excessive
oil consumption. Theory is of course for engines whose rings have not seated, the scouring of the cylinder walls will help the rings seat. Now a 1340 is I believe from the 1920's and I would never do this on a modern engine, but this scouring powder into the intake was actually done, it's not just a myth.
