Perkins 4108 fuel pump anti stall device
I was bleeding the fuel lines on my Perkins 4108 today and air vent screw sheared off (see item 3 in the circle, attached photo). It sheared off flush with the item 1, the anti stall device body. So I now have diesel fuel squirting out of the top of the anti stall device.
Question: can I simply replace the anti stall device (items 1, 2 and 3) with a plain old screw of the same thread along with a washer to seal it all off?

Re: Perkins 4108 fuel pump anti stall device
I would remove assembly and then try to remove the broken bleed screw maybe with a easy out. Hope it's a metric screw, not a British / Imperial thread!

No. That would eliminate the anti-stall device such that the pump will not function properly. Contact Transatlantic Diesels, and they might be able to fix you up with the correct replacement parts.

Maybe so, have you removed the broken screw? You can't know until you look at it. It will be hard to find a screw that size with a hex head so it will be hard to hold while loosening the jamb nut.

Thank you, however to get me home could I Easy Out the bleed screw and replace, or is it a very specific screw? Alternatively could I put a dollop of solder over the sheared screw to block off the leak?

Re: Perkins 4108 fuel pump anti stall device
Update: problem solved. Tapped out the the bleed screw at the top of the anti stall device and replaced with a standard screw filed on one side to match the old one. Works perfectly.

Right ON!
Im impressed.
I had some trouble this summer w my 4-108 anti stall device leaking fuel.
Turns out that part is installed with JB weld at the factory.
Remove and replace a small nightmare.
Thank goodness you avoided that.

What did you do with the spring and plunger?

You have my sympathies! I noticed there are two seals on the anti stall device that could cause fuel to leak if they fail. One at the lock nut and one at the bleed screw.

Fortunately the spring and plunger didn't fall out as it was only the bleed screw head that snapped off. But this is a trap for new players like myself. If the bleed screw is fully removed while the anti stall device is in place, fuel can push the spring and plunger out. On my boat that means getting lost into the bilge!

Re: Perkins 4108 fuel pump anti stall device
I bleed my 4107 by unscrewing the bleed screw on secondary filter and cracking open the injectors turn engine over till diesel runs bubble free then she runs.

Interesting, I wondered whether that would work. It makes sense that it would.

Re: Perkins 4108 fuel pump anti stall device
On a Perkins 4-108 you never bleed that top bleed screw, just for this reason,
you only bleed from the screw on the side of the pump, don't believe everything you read. Maka is right, the anti stall device is only held in with
JB Weld.
