Yes, I have a shop manual but it does not address the removal process.

Manual shows the breakdown for the injector. Remove fuel lines then the large nut at the base of the injector turned counter clockwise to remove.

Remove all fuel supply lines...DO NOT BEBD!!!!!!!!

Liberally spray PB Blaster around base of Injector.....allowing it to marinate over night.....I have seen a lot of Perkins with siezed injectors.

If injector does not come out with the aid of a "ladyslipper" use a ball-pein hammer to GENTLY work the injector back and forth......avoid hitting the threads......

Do not use a lot of force when prying....you can break the injector....leaving the lower half in the hole. DAMHIKT
P...A....T.....I....E....N....C.....E.....IS THE KEY

Re: Perkins 4-108 injector removal

The injectors on the 4108 are held in place by a yoke. Remove the nuts and washers from the yoke and use a small pry bar to apply pessure, first on one side then the other. If that doesn't loosen it try tapping one side of the injector with a small hammer while prying upward on the yoke on the opposing side. Then switch sides and repeat untill it comes free. Liberal application of penetrating oil around the base of the injectors 24hr prior to starting this process seems to help a lot. The size of the hammer and the amount of force used is strictly up to you because sometimes they come right out on the first tap, other times they can be so stubborn you'll think they are welded in place.

Why didn't I think of that?

Re: Perkins 4-108 Injector Removal

Thank you all, for the help. The Chief Engineer and Jesse hit it right (pun intended). I soaked the injector bases overnight in Blaster and then swung a ballpeen hammer all morning. patience is not one of my futures, but I didn't break anything and the injectors are now on my work bench.

The next step is to load the cylinders with Blaster & WD-40 and let it sit for a few days. After that I'll try an impact wrench to find out if I can unsieze the engine.

Thanks again,

Whoa Whoa WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatchatryintodo?

Describe what led up to the "seizing" before you put an impct wrench on it.

A siezed engine could be any number of things......

Re: Perkins 4-108 Injector Removal

Chief Engineer,

The boat is under restoration and the exhaust system was poorly designed and caused seawater to back into the exhaust mainfold and thus into the oil pan which is how I discovered the problem. Plus the boat has been sitting for about 14 months with no engine running.

I drained the oil sump (mostly water) and rebuilt the exhaust system with a vented loop and new piping plus a new waterlift muffler.

There was no water in the cylinders, so it is probably a corrosion problem. I now have Blaster and WD-40 soaking in all Cylinders.

Don't be too upset with me for the impact wrench... it's under reduced power at 80 PSI. I did try turning it by hand with a breaker bar but it's stuck solid.

Re: Perkins 4-108 Injector Removal

If you are applying the impact wrench to the bolt that secures the drive pulley to the crankshaft, it's good to remember that although the bolt head measures 1-1/2'' across the flats the threaded portion is only 5/8'' dia. and you will likely twist the head off the bolt with that much power.
Any water in the oilpan that entered through the exhaust had to squeeze past the piston rings to get there and those rings are probably rusted to the cylinder wall in one or more cylinders. Removing the engine will give you much better access and more options.

It's not what you want to hear but if you remove the cylinder head you can stick a block of wood in the cylinder and smack it with a BIG hammer. It's not such a big project.
On the more wild side, and it sounds wild, remove an injector, squirt starting fluid in the hole and light it. Of course choose a cylinder with both valves closed.
A more labor intensive route is remove the transmission and bell housing and use a pry bar on the ring gear teeth.
You will probably break off the vibration damper bolt if you keep on wrenching on it. That of course could be bad.

Guy, Thank you for your input!

The block of wood idea sounds like a do-able thing, have you actually done this with success? If you have was it a long term success story?

Well sure it works but I do it to tear down an engine for ovhl so it's hard to know what the long term outcome would be.
There is going to be a ton of rust in your oil system after turning it over.
