In my workshop manual, the first step in replacing the injector pump is "Replace the fuel pump mounting flange joint (where necessary)." Is this anything like replacing a gasket?

What are ring spanners called elsewhere? That's one tool that I thought was universally called the same thing

open end or closed end or combination wrenches.

I had a lovely set of Whitworth spanners for a couple of Gardner Diesels. A complete tool set came with each engine...works of art.

I was amazed that you could run them on one cylinder (they were 6 cylinders)

My first (converted) trawler had a Gardner diesel, noisy as hell but totally reliable. It would happily run at 200 rpm.
