Perkins 4-107 ?

I found this out several years ago when a diesel mechanic told me that I should be using a heavy duty anti freeze instead of the regular duty stuff that I'ld been using in the 4-108 for around 20 years. Well...I flushed the engine out and did convert to the heavy duty stuff with more corrosion inhibitors thinking that it was better. Later I learned that the purpose of the heavy duty anti freeze was to provide extra protection for the wet sleeve and since I had the dry sleeve it was really not necessary to change.

there is, however, a WESTERBEKE 4-107.

people get these confused quite a lot.

both engines are fabulous and with just a little care will last 100 years or more.

parts are easy to come by for both engines.

i've had both, a perkins 4-108 in a nice 41' ketch i once had, and a westerbeke 4-107 in a 37' sloop i used to have. both engines are superb.

the '4' signifies the number of cylinders in the engine.

I have a Westerbeke 4-107 in my 1974 42' sailboat
The Westerbeke is a Perkins block. I buy parts most of my parts and gaskets at Pacific Perkins in Vancouver,WA. A lot cheaper then the local Marine Westerbeke dealer.

I had a Perkins 4-107 in my Mariner 35 many years ago. It was bullet proof. I'd have another if they were easy to find.

It was due for a change over anyway so after flushing the old antifreeze out, I replaced it with the heavy duty stuff. After doing some more reading on the subject I found that the heavy duty stuff was not really necessary for dry sleeve cylinders. At the time I was really unsure if the 4-108 had the dry or the wet.
