Re: Performance Differences Between MaxProp Sizes and Pitches

Keep in mind that a MaxProp does not really have a "pitch" but rather a blade angle. Its pitch is different at the blade root than at the tip due to lack of blade twist. The pitch referenced is an average based on blade angle. It does not necessarily correlate precisely with a fixed prop pitch.

Another thumbs up for Gerr's Handbook. Clears up some common misconceptions, some of which have been repeated in this thread...

Re: Performance Differences Between MaxProp Sizes and Pitches

Apparently im in the prop walk camp. These propeller threads become so long that I don't even remember the original posters questions. All these prop threads, regardless of the question are just everyone bragging about what a nice propler they have and how they would buy another.

I got a four bladed 13" vari prop last year. I wouldn't go with anything else. It has a lot of prop walk which the advertisement says it doesn't but I'm going to learn to use it.

I can say I've never seen a 4-bladed prop on a 28' sailboat before.

No? I wonder Wayne. For extra ocean going power? That's what vari prop website says its for, thrust when you need it most, in big swells to lessen cavitation.
