Penetrating oil for old bolts/studs on exhaust manifold

Hello there forum members.
I would appreciate any recommendations for penetrating oil for manifold bolts or studs. I haven't started to remove these, but I want to start out right as these are possibly in there for 35 years and there is a lot of rust on the old raw water manifold. I will be using hear (possibly a welder) to expand the bolts, but I would like to let them soak for some days ahead of time. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

PB-Blaster or a 50/50 mix of auto transmission fluid and acetone, and intermittent heat and lots of soak time

Wow, you guys are awesome! That chart, A64Pilot, is very enlightening. And I will definitely use both days and heat with the Acetone-atf mix . I have had good success on tractor studs (used to farm) in the past, welding a nut on to whatever remains of the stud, through the nut hole, which gives you something to put a wrench on, and really heats the stud at the same time.

I would have guessed that the acetone would evaporate off after a short time rendering it no more effective than just ATF.

For that reason I always leaned toward using a thin oil, like diesel fuel (or purpose-made penetrating oil like pblaster.)

I'll try ATF and acetone next time! I always have some extra ATF since my tranny only takes half a jug.

I'm not sure how scientific the testing was, but I've heard the acetone / ATF mix from several sources, but I seem to default to PB Blaster, one day I'll find some Kroil to try as it has many fans.
Welding a nut on is a very good method as a last resort, course means you have to have a welder, which I no longer do as mine was stolen out of my garage the other day. I ought to buy one of those tiny TIG machines that will work off of a regular 110 outlet, pure magic they are, I would have never believed you could get enough power out of a regular plug to weld until I used one myself.

Oh, and acetone is VERY flammable I believe, so careful with a torch.

You sure that was a TIG and not a MIG? I have a small TIG and it needs 220 no doubt. You could only weld for a minute or two on 110. Even my cheap 220 TIG only has a 40% duty cycle.

Definitely TIG, it's at work, tiny little thing, won't do high freq though, so no aluminum welding, but does steel and SS really well.

Anyone have some comparative tests for products which use cold in order to break things free? Like, say, Loctite Freeze & Release. Or any of the DIY methods for radically dropping the temp of frozen parts, in order to shrink them a bit & break them free?
Obviously, there's the drawback of very cold metal being more brittle, but... if the technique works.

Before and after applying the penetrate of choice use a hammer & drift on the seized Nut , Stud or Bolt , repeat as often as possible.

Ive seen that ATF/Acetone thing for years but never have done it, but might be on a project to do it right now. I will say, I have been very impressed by Kroil, just wish it was easier to order than by the company itself. I did some really ugly jobs on a fishing reel when I filled an ultrasonic cleaner up with Kroil. Was amazed at how reel components came out with it.

The freezing spray, I truly wonder about the effect of it as cold is dispersed so quickly and does it really have enough to impact what you are doing. A study on it would be great to see, as with anything put it towards traction.
