pearson commander outboard replacement?

Looking to replace my 1987 9.9 yachtwin with a new 6hp nissan sailpro. Will this motor (sailpro) have good power for my commander? Will be in lake michigan and lakes leading to lake michigan. I don't want to under power but a new 4 stroke 9.9 will not fit in the motor box. have never had to buy a new motor so any help will be great

Re: pearson commander outboard replacement?

We have a Tohatsu 6hp Sail Pro (same motor as the Nissan, as I understand it) which pushes our Cape Dory 27 fine. We have used it in moderate wind/current conditions and kept about 5.5kts. On a dead calm, we use less than 20% power to push up to that speed.

Wish we had a well in our boat!
