Outboard Mounting Bracket

Hi All -

I just got an outboard back from the shop which came with my boat but I never mounted (it had been out of service for several years). In removing the currently in service motor and trying to mount the new one, there is a difference in the clamp area which is preventing me from fully mounting the "bracket" on the transom (actually lazarette in my case). On the black motor you can see that the outer part of the bracket is basically flat...the white one has a bar protruding. On the black motor this bar is underneath another bar creating a flat surface, and on the white one it's on the outside.

One is a johnson and the other is an evinrude but i believe they are basically supposed to look the same. Please see attached photo's, and if you can help, help!

Caveat - I know nothing about outboards - I hope this is a reall simple stupid fix!

Thanks

Sandy

Sure looks like a lot of corrosion on both....and the white one looks like the metal is bent.

I assume the bracket sticks out too far.
See the two ears on the sides. Mount a block of wood with screws to take up the area for the bracket.

Hope that helps!

no_ the problem is exactly the opposite. The bracket won't fit over my transom because of the bar sticking out on the white motor.

Hi Everyone - a veteran salty dog at the slip saved the day. Turns out that the bar sticking out just needed to be pushed back into place while the motor was tilted out. I couldn't get it to tilt because I didn't use a prybar to break the years of not being tilted! Case closed!
