More information please...

A quick check suggests that the Prout 35 (your boat?) may have a distinctive engine installation.

Some appear to have a single small diesel (20hp?) driving through a "Sonic" saildrive.

Could you give us more information about your boat, the condition and type of the saildrive and how you use (or intend to use) it.

I am on to my second new one in three years. Now I have found some oil leaks in that. Expensive pieces of crap.

I can only say good things about the Kubota that I have, any problems can be traced to previous poor maintenance.

It really depends on where you live and what you intend to do with the vessel. I perfer Yanmar, great engine and easy to get parts and service. Westerbeke and Universal are the same company execpt different motors on the units, Universal is Kobuta and Westerbeke is a Jap motor and Isuzu motor depending on the model. Where do you intend to sail? Look around your area the the locations you want to sail for dealer support. These odd ball motors might use Kobuta but how hard is it to get parts? I work on Yanmars today that are 30 to 40 years old and still run like a top.
