On the hard - Flush engine recommended?

My boat is on the hard in North Carolina, and will be out for 6 months or longer. What steps should be taken to protect the engine (Yanmar 4jh). I assume there is salt water just sitting in there now and that's probably not ideal.

If I just disconnect the main seawater feed I am assuming there would likely still be water in the water pump and lines. I don't think I want to start the engine, unless I have a bucket of fresh water (with antifreeze) to feed the engine.

I assume you northerners have to do this all the time when boats are hauled. What is recommended. Thanks!

Re: On the hard - Flush engine recommended?

Hi,

You can try the cruiserforum links in this search, but I also suggest the winterizing section in Nigel Calder's book and your engine manual.

site:http://www.cruisersforum.com winterizing checklist

https://www.amazon.com/Boatowners-Me...sap_bc?ie=UTF8

edit: first link does not direct correctly. Copy entire link into browser address section and it should display a list of forum discussions about winterizing.
