oil pump

Hi,i have had a lot of trouble with the oil pump on my perkins 4107,twice the oil pressure relief valve opened and would not reset,i stripped it down and came to the conclusion that the spring was weak,so i made a spacer 3/8"long,reasembled it,fitted it and hey presto no oil pressure, removed it made a drive shaft with a 1/4"tang to fit in the end of pump shaft,to power it with my power drill, set the pump in vice and at 1000 revs had oil pressure,so i now have oil pressure on the bench but no pressure in engine,i only wish i could afford a new engine, iam really pissed off,any ideas? Ronnie.

Re: oil pump

If the engine is on the bench watch the drive tang while your faithful assistant bars the engine over. If it isn't turning, dig deeper.

Re: oil pump

If it pumps on the bench then the drive on the engine is caput ! ya need to grab hold of the drive shaft and turn it by hand, if it turns its broke, and needs to be repaired ! simple ! it's gear driven so should not turn except when the engine do !! Ck it Im sure your drive is bad ! just my 2 cents
