Oil filter ID for 1985 Yanmar 2GM

My new to me Bayfield came with a box of spare parts including oil and fuel filters. The oil filter is apparently an old Yanmar number, although it was sealed in a factory wrapper and looked new, it isn't listed anywhere. Along with the Yanmar filter is a Fram filter in its box, quite rusty on top, but the number is still a good one. The Fram number is PH3593A, but after reading the online oil filter study, I'm not a fan of that brand nor do I know if it's the correct filter.

I'm finding a Yanmar number 119305-35151 with online sellers at places such as Amazon along with a couple other numbers. In crossing all of them utilizing the oil filter cross reference website, they do tend to cross paths with each other, and a hundred other filters and brands. In fact, the filter for my Gravely 260 mower and my Polaris UTE, both single cylinder gasoline engines, are in the mix as fitting my 2GM (that does not sound right either).

It's mind boggling, and I don't want to use an incorrect filter and ruin my engine. Does anyone have a manual with the correct part listed?

Thank you so much!! That Yanmar number you posted is the one I installed on my 2GM, however, I can't find it listed anywhere. But you have given me an option, the Sierra filter, those generally are decent.

PS.. my search has turned up 30W oil for the drive unit and under sail it's to be in neutral. Am I close?

A wix model 51356 or bosch 3300, will both fit a 2gm or 3gm series engine. This also cross references to a1999 miata.....

I've used both for years, with no ill effects.

The Fram 3593A fits most of the Universal diesels, maybe the Yanmar too, I don't remember what my old 2GM used. That same filter also fit a couple of cars I used to have. I used to use them because our local supermarket stocked them. After reading that same study I've quit using them. Wix are the best and NAPA sells them under their house brand. If the Fram fits the engine just go to NAPA and ask for the one that crosses with it.

I've used the same oil in the gearbox, a KM2, that I use in the engine with no ill effects. Don't know what gearbox you have.

As to leaving the gearbox in neutral while sailing? There are different schools of thought on this as the Yanmar manuals have stated across the years to leave it in reverse in one manual and to leave it in neutral in another manual years later and then reverse themselves years after to leave it in reverse.

I don't want to reignite that debate here on CF so I will tell you what has worked for me: Sailing at 4-knots or less I will leave it in neutral. Over 4-knots I leave it in reverse. Have never had a gearbox issue other than normal wear-and-tear while motoring (cone clutch just plain wore out).

Thank you all very, very much! I have a portion of the original engine manual, it's a copy, and much of the information is missing or was chopped off during the coping process. But it appears I have the KM2 transmission, so that will use 15W-40 engine oil, same as the engine it seems.
