Oil & Water Leak Ford Lehman Engine

I have a Ford Lehman 80hp 4 cyl engine, about 1980 on a trawler that has a water and oil together leak seems to be coming from top bell housing. Anyone ever heard of this? If it's the main crankshaft seal, what would the symptoms be?Any advise appreciated.

Re: oil & water leak ford lehman engine

i've got one of those engines in my Vagabond. Quite possibley the leak is in the saltwater engine cooler. i just had a leaky Paragon cooler go on me, turned the red oil into white cheese

Re: oil & water leak ford lehman engine

On mine the transmission cooler/heat exchanger is right above the bell housing. If the heat exchanger is shot it might give you oil and water. Better check yer tranny!
Thanks
