Norscot shaft seal question

Alright, first off, Merry Christmas and or a Happy Holidays everyone. If you don't celebrate at all, well, have a great day anyway.

I need help again!

My boat has a Norscot shaft seal, and it has developed the habit of leaking water into my bilge, but only when underway. It doesn't leak a drop when sitting at the dock, only when motoring. It has continued to increase the amount of water and I need to deal with it now.

I've searched for, and read everything I can about seals and understand that this is a lip seal. I can't find anything published (so far) that tells me; 1) why it's failing this way. 2) what the fix is.

Can anyone help me out here?
And it's kinda like, "can I keep doing it until I need glasses" kinda thing.
Or am I looking at the possibility of catastrophic failure?

John

Re: Norscot shaft seal question

I'd off hand say that torsional thrust is changing the angle of the shaft underway or under thrust.
Kicking it to the side, and wearing unevenly.
Look for failing or soft engine mounts, excessive movement of the engine underway.
