New alternator

Hoping for some knowledgeable input please.

My old alternator quit last week. Checking around I found a nice shiney 90 amp for a decent price. It just came in. But there are some differences and I'm not knowledgeable enough to understand.

The old unit has a small round object on the back. Maybe a voltage regulator. The new one doesn't but wonder if it maybe doesn't need it. Also the new one has more connections on the back.

Information much appreciated.

See pics.

Re: New alternator

The small, round, shiny object is a condenser. They're used on generators and alternators to stop static in radios and other electronics by the charging circuit.
The new alternator looks to be either a GM 10/12si or a copy. The large insulated terminal is the battery connection and the smaller is probably a tach connection.
Contact the seller for w wiring diagram or get a positive id on the alternator, search the web or contact the manufacturer.
Many companies make replacement alternators to fit several engines. Often they come with unused terminals for your specific engine.

Re: New alternator

That is exactly what they are for, ever heard on an AM radio a whine that increases pitch with engine RPM?
Just in case you want to pay a stupid price cause it’s an airplane part, see if this looks familiar
