Need Help with our Westerbeke 52

Hello all We have a westsail 32 with a 1982 westerbeke 52
we bought her last uear had a great test sail and then when we were to bring her home we found the person handling the sale for a sick owner had put fuel on top of very old fuel so we had issues .. we ended up putting a hose straight to a geri jug to get her 75 miles to home.. well that summer we ended up hauling out for hurricane issac and when we returned to the water in Nov we had fuel dumping into the crankcase,, we were told most likely the injector pump and so forth well injector pump is rebuilt put back on and still problems ,... Starts easy runs for 5 seconds then surges and will not rev up acts like starving for fuel new filters tank was cleaned to spotless so new fuel compression test on heads GREAT ,,, any suggestions my husband is going out of his mind......
thanks:

Fuel in the crankcase sounds really bad. But since the compression test came back ok, I would check all the fittings on the inlet fuel line for an air leak. The filters and housings can crack and suck air if not properly installed or over tightened. Thats what I would check first... air in the fuel system

Re: Need Help with our Westerbeke 52

The fuel might be getting into the crankcase via the lift pump (not the injector pump), just a hole in the membrane of the lift pump. A fairly common problem.

Re: Need Help with our Westerbeke 52

thanks guy
our injector pump has a built in lift pump so there is no external one and it was part of the 830 dollar rebuild .... we have already chnaged oil in the crank case ....we put on all new soft lines and had the hard lines checked we though maybe a pickup tube so we once again tried to run it off a geri jug bypassing the tank still no go ,,,

Did you replace the fuel filter on the engine also and insure that the gaskets were installed properly? This is also a possible cause for air leak into fuel system.
