Need help identifying type of Perkins

Hey guys,

I recently bought a 1976 Bristol 27. She currently has a worn down, torn up perkins in her that currently doesn't run. I'm trying to determine what model it is to start digging into manuals and seeing what sort of information ic an find out about this engine.

The label position containing serial/type is located on the left side(looking towards the belt), positioned below the fuel injectors. Due to the fuel injectors and crap that is on this thing, i cant really tell exactly what it is.

Here is what i've gotten so far(couldn't read the last 1 or 2 digit/characters for type):
Type: RB 30 29 {??}
Serial: 117126Y


Now that information could totally be off, but from what i could see that was what i could make out.

Anyone have any insight on what perkins model this is?

Doing a bit of digging on perkins engines. Altenator is located on the right hand side, which leads me to believe this potentially is a M30.

Hi CHOWDAN,

My Perkins has the letter "T" in it making it a 1989. The first piece of the engine number begins with ED70058. This means the engine family code is ED and the parts list manual is 70058. The letter "U" is in the next series of letters and numbers making it a UK (England) built engine. I bought it in Canada in 1995 - it was new. Its a GREAT engine for marine use and is tough as nails ! I once ran it with only 3 injectors functioning for weeks and it was un-noticeable in sound and vibration. If you can get 'er shined up and working you will have an engine that is best for bang-versus buck.
Perkins Power Corp in Orange Park Florida are specialists and can help with almost any part you need.
There are many others-you just have to find them in that HUGE Perkins grepavine. They made millions of these engines and are used in Massey Ferguson tractors (non-marine versions), by navy ships and also were used much in hospital electric generation plants.

Just google it. There are about 50 pictures of perkins 2 cyl engines: perkins 2 cylinder diesel engine it appears some were made by shubauru?

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I'm really hoping once i tear into it, ill wont see a cluster **** of rust on the interior, however i probably will. The boats about 25 miles from me, with traffic can be upwards of an hour drive. This weekend ill be practically staying up there to really dig in to the engine and boat to create a list of problems.

That being said, i'll update the thread with photos of the boat AND the engine. I've heard a majority of these perkins engines are built like tanks and a plethora of parts out there, jsut a matter of finding them.

On a side note, the boat is in decent condition, only the rigging/chainplates, seacocks and engine are in need of servicing/replacing.

BTW, most those little 2 cyl diesels can be lifted by a couple of guys once you strip the outer stuff off. In theory you can remove it and take it home to your garage...

Thanks for that idea! Unfortunately i live in an apartment, however my girlfriends parents house is about 20 minutes away(with traffic), and since we are over there often, i could easily work on it there(plus they have tools which is something i lack).

Thinking about it, I could lift the engine out with the boom and set it on the dock for a few of us to carry to a truck and haul it home to work on.
