Need help

I have a Perkins 4-108 and a borg Werner gear. The tranny is going out and I’m at anchor. I may or may not be able to get it in forward gear in case of an emergency so I’m leaving the gear in for now. My question is does anyone know off hand how I can find out what tranny it is or one that will fit without removal. I just want the new one before I take the blown one out. My shaft is 1,1/8 stainless. The engine number is ed22195u. I’m not finding a match on Perkins website and not sure where to go next. I figure the experience on this board outweighs mine a million to one.
Thanks from Maui for any help.

Re: Need help

I think you have a 71 CR. Enclosed are some pages from a scanned manual. Some trans numbers and troubleshooting. Should be a dealer in Hawaii.

Is your problem solved now?

There are two Borg Warner "velvet drive" gear boxes fitted to marinised 4-108s. One was a 2.1/1 and the other 1.9/1. One turns clockwise and the other counter clockwise.

Maybe I misunderstand your problem because I am wondering why you are looking looking in the Perkins manual for Borg Warner parts/specification?

Re: Need help

It was kinda a side note that the engine number wasn’t lining up right. I passed this on to my mechanic that I hired to go through the engine and replace the tranny. I run boats for a living and want to srperate the load a bit in regards to hiring a mechanic for my personal new to me 39 ted brewer design
