More hp out of my 3YM20?

OK, I have a 2008 3YM20 in my boat. The PO re-powerd to to the 20 rather than the 30 to save a few pound for racing.... Don't ask. So now I have a 18,000# boat with a small aperture (13" 2 blade - might be able to get a 14"; need to measure) Is there any way to "aftermarket upgrade" the Yanmar the way my brother does his Cummins pickup truck? I have not been able to make 2/3 hull speed, and in rough weather I can't point it into the wind - annoying. It's not a huge issue, as I really don't use the engine except for the last 1-3km from the harbor, but still, nice to know I have it if I need it....

Thanks

Re: More hp out of my 3YM20?

I tend to agree that 3YM30 would be a better match to Alberg 37. It is basically the same engine as 3YM20, but with a longer stroke on the cylinders. If I were in your shoes, I'd carefully check the prop diameter and pitch, and change it if it makes sense. You might consider Campbell Sailor propeller--I have heard people say good things about it. Otherwise, I'd just live with it. 3YM20 is a good engine, and when your Alberg 37 was designed, 20HP was probably considered just right for that sized boat.

Re: More hp out of my 3YM20?

UPDATE: The guys at Campbell Sailor hooked me up with a 3 blade 13x9 RH prop. I still reach max RPM's on the engine and the boat has MUCH more power. Also backs up straight from the slip (that alone was worth the price!)
