Milky gear oil temporary solution

Hi, I have a volvo sail drive, got seawater in the drive, prior to haul out to change seals (I still had to do quite a bit of driving), I managed to suck 95% of the milky stuff out of the saildrive by pushing the plastic tube of a oil change pump down the dipstick hole. With a bit of fiddling it went virtually all the way down to the bottom of the drive. Its one of those nice vacuum style hand pumps. I put clean oil in, when I eventually drained it on the hard it was still eyeball clean, about 150hrs later. This would be a good solution for someone who has to do a lot of driving before being able to fix things. Not sure if it will work on a Yanmar saildrive. Also, if you do change the shaft seals on a volvo, if you have a cat like me, change both sides, make sure you order 4 seals in advance as it is 2 per side. I was in Panama, doing a one day haul out, they sent me 3 seals $%?!...so I could only end up doing one side. I would include 2 of these seals as 'must have' spares for a long voyage in 3rd world areas.
cheers
