Manual / Handbook for Perkins.

When I was in my teens and early twenties and used to buy old cars I always invested in a Haynes Manual and found them invaluable Now I am in my late forties and have recently bought a boat with a Perkins 80hp deisel engine (inboard).

I'd really like to get a decent manual for it so that I do do the necessary mainentance and replace parts when they go wrong.

I don't know if Haynes ( or Haines) do the manuals but my engine is a 4 cylinder
with the following number BB 80680 U 688355 Y.

I have looked on ebay but they talk about "Perkins New 1000 Series 4 & 6 Cyl. diesel engines" etc. I don't know what "series" my engine is !!!

( If you know pleas spill the beans! )

Many thanks for all the help to a newbie.

David.

Your engine is a Prima or "500 Series" engine. Exact model is 504-2T.

I could get you a workshop manual, but would have to sell it, as I work for a Perkins dealer. Maybe someone on here has a .pdf of it. If not, you may be better off getting it from a local dealer, as I am in NJ.

How much would the manual and the postage to Fethiye, Mugla, Turkey work out at ? Don't forget that massive discount for being Perkins lover !

Thanks

Just a thought -
Pete wrote this "Your engine is a Prima or "500 Series" engine. Exact model is 504-2T"

How do you know what series my engine is ? and can I check it for myself online? I guess that you went by my engine number that I quoted as being BB 80680 U 688355 Y.

The link to the .pdf manuals is for the 4.107, 4.108, 4.99
Are these related to my 504-2T engine ?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am not familiar with the numbering and series etc. The numbers look quite different to me !

Thanks for advice
David.

Well thanks - that list has helped a bit although it leads to more questions !

I can see that the first 2 letters "BB" means that I have a
Prima 500 series 504-2T.

(1)
The table says that my last number (in my case "Y") means the year of manufacture but there is nothing to show what the "Y" corresponds to ie which year ? At least I couldn't see any look up table for that.

(2)
On the table I can also see the 4.108 ( the E family) but I can not see any mention of the 4.107 or 4.99 in this listing. So I don't know why the manuals have these numbers ?
- just trying to understand it !

(3) Anyone have a link for a pdf of the Prima 500 series 504-2T manual ?

many thanks again.
Dave

Thanks
- so my engine is 13 years old !
Wow !!

- it must have been sitting in a warehouse for years because it was ordered as "new" for the boat I bought, and the boat is only 4 years old !!!

Any thoughts on getting a pdf manual for it ?
