Here is what David Kostka of Lehr had to say about flushing the 5hp engine.
The earmuffs will work if they are small enough and fit right.
Alternatively, there is a flush port down near the drive oil fill screw on lower unit. We don’t make a flush adapter to connect a hose to that yet, but the one from a Yamaha 4hp will work.

Chris, David emailed me a couple of fact sheets on the Lehr outboards including some stuff on the 9.9 that I hadn't seen yet. I'll forward it to you as soon as I get to my store.

I bit the bullet and will own a 2.5 Lehr tomorrow. There were some out of box motors left over from the boat show">Miami boat show display available at a good price so I'm going to grab one. If anybody wants a 2.5 or 5hp Lehr and can pick it up in Miami, contact me. I won't try to ship one of these, no box.

Weird, I found those manuals online so easily the first time and now I couldn't and had to hunt through my history. Their site isn't the best.

I got a paper copy with the engine but used the pdf to make sure I wasn't missing words like "flush".

I quickly perused, and find no mention of the flush screw either. OTOH, the 9.9 manual does speak to several other questions I had about shallow water, trim, maintenance, etc.

Even now knowing the pathname, I can't find a visible link to their user manuals -- but I suspect they now know that some of the info has been a bit difficult to find

I finally got out on the water with my Lehr 2.5. I'm pleased with it's easy start. Seems to have plenty of power. I just ran it on the one pound tank for a total of maybe half an hour. There is still a lot of propane in the tank.

Mine was a boat show display model as well. We picked up several 5 hp motors after the Miami show that I can give good deals on. I think I grabbed the only 2.5.

Ok. I just tried the flushing attachment that Steveston Marine (Vancouver, BC) said was for the Yamaha 4hp. That doesn't come close to fitting. The thing is in 2 pieces (seems to have a quick-connect and regular threaded hose attachment) and the smallest end of the smallest piece is way too big for the flushing port (beside the foot oil level plug). And it has no threads on the small end so...even if it did fit, you'd have to hold it there. Unless there's another hole/port that I'm not seeing, that flushing kit doesn't work.

For the record, I tried "Seachoice 18411 Outboard flush kit for use with Mercury/Yamaha engines. Made in USA" The Steveston SKU is 009945 and retails for $25.

I will continue looking around and post here if I find anything.

anyone have any idea why the big warning sticker "Disconnect fuel line when not in use" on the engine? That's a bit of a pain. It starts very reliably first pull while connected but first start after re-connecting line takes about 10 pulls to get the air lock out. Can I just leave it together? Maybe with tank valve off (although that might still make air locks...?)?

Ngermain, They sold you the wrong flush attachment. The Seachoice 18411 is for larger engines. I haven't seen an aftermarket flush attachment for the 4 hp Yamaha. I think you'll have to buy it from a Yamaha dealer.
I think the correct part number is ABB-FLUSH-JD-00.

ngermain, I checked with Lehr about your question concerning removing the hose. It seems they are concerned that a leak could release a large amount of propane.
They said definitely remove the small bottle but just closing the valve on a big tank is probably ok.

I'm looking for an outboard that I can tilt up and out of the water from a specially made well on a sailboat. What's the range of manual tilt on the Lehr 5 hp? Any trouble if it spends most of its time tilted at max (which I've read can be hard on gas outboards)? And finally, how hard would it be to switch the prop for a lower-pitch one better suited to moving a heavy sailboat?

My 5hp goes almost horizontal when fully tilted. I'll take a picture for you next time I'm at the boat. I don't have a lifting/adjustable mount, just a fixed bracket on the transom fairly low down and I've had to trouble getting the prop out of the water with a tilt.

I've always stored it fully tilted without any problems. There is no liquid fuel anywhere in the carb or line after shutting the engine down so it avoids any of those fuel-related orientation problems of gas engines. Supposedly though, if you store the engine horizontal and turned with tiller side up, engine oil can leak into the cylinder (much like any other outboard). Thus there's a warning sticker to that effect and I don't turn the engine while tilted.

I've never changed props but it looks easy. One bolt, one pin.
