Leaking water pump

I'm almost afraid to ask, but, I replaced the rubber impeller on my Yanmar 1 GM, but i have water leaking out of them slots that are between the impeller and the engine. The slots, one on the bottom and one on the top are right behind the impeller. Know what i mean ? Is it normal for this to leak ? It's not a whole lot, but it don't seem right.

How old is the pump? Lip seal pumps generally will leak again after repair. Make sure you check you bearings also. If it is old, 1 gm pumps are not that expensive. I would get new one.

I suppose the pump is as old as the boat. I've only had this boat for a year and i don't know much about it's history. Thanks for the info !
