Jabsco versus Sherwood

Opinions requested.

I need to install a pump to pump saltwater to my heat exchanger. I have two pumps already. One is a Jabsco and the other is a Sherwood.
I see that the impeller for the Jabsco is easier to change after installation than the Sherwood but in my case the the Sherwood would be easier for initial installation.

With modification to the mounting I can still do the Jabsco just a couple of mounting bracket modifications more or less.

Any opinions on either pump out there?

Both are good pumps. I would take the path of hard work now, easier impellor replacement later.

Yeah easy for me to say. I was thinking as I was typing, hmmm, me thinks...would I take the easy way out.....

I have to make a bracket to line up the end of the driveshaft pulley with the Jabsco pulley and change the impeller on the Jabsco. Not so much more work really. With the Sherwood I have to change seals, impeller and then grind a bit off one of the floors to mount the bracket and align it too.
Thanks for your input. I like the idea of easier access to the impeller if something gets stuck in there or I need to change it.

In addition to make impellor changing easier. A plate is sold as a simple add on for impellor pumps. It is nothing more than a good 1/4" thick or maybe even thicker brass plate. Because of the thickness, it need only be supported by two fastenings instead of the miriad all around the plate. Two finger type nuts/bolts are fitted one on each side of the plate. The plate has a hole for one to captivate the plate and a slot on the other so as the plate can simply be losend and swung around to expose the impellor. It makes the process easy and fast without having to totally remove screws. Each fastening remains in the pump housing. So you have no lost screws and the plate remains so you can't drop that either. Simple to make and if you have the pump out anyway, it would be simple to do. Or buy if you want the real McCoy.

I've seen those quick acces plates in catalogs. Might be worth it.
I really hate to think of no cooling water and taking a long time to correct it.
I once helped a friend dislodge a small fish from his cooling plumbing just prior to the impeller. Nearly caused damage to his engine. After that I suggested he install a screen on his intake. No more fishes.
