Is this fuel filter ok to use?

I have a Racor 24T fuel filter that was in the spares that came with the boat. I swapped out the fuel filter yesterday and didn't use this one because it has some rust on it. See pic is this one still o to use or is it trash?

It's just a little surface rust. Once fuel gets on it the oxidation will stop.

I would not use it. Why take a chance introducing rust into your fuel injectors

If it's a primary filter I'd have no hesitation in using it but if it is your secondary or only filter maybe not worth the risk

It's a primary filter 10 micron Racor 24T

I also have a secondary filter on the engine. I changed that one as well

Is it worth taking a chance? Who knows what the inside looks like.

The risk is small, but the consequence of the risk is awful, and the cost is low. Chuck it.

I agree with this. I am in Mexico so will try to source another one as a spare. Will hold on to this one if I absolutely have to run it at some point when we are in the middle of nowhere. If I can find replacement I will trash it.

Can't see any risk as secondary filter will stop any rust particles & you only have small surface rust but as others have said not a big cost to trash it.

Re: Is this fuel filter ok to use?

Fuel filters are cheap, fuel injectors are NOT.
If it was my boat, I probably wouldn't use it if it looked like that one.
I recently revamped our entire fuel system with dual, parallel Racors that can be switched back and forth. Flip a fuel valve and change one filter while the other is still working. And vice-versa.
One thing I do with spare filters is seal them in a vacuum food saver bag with a desiccant pack so that they're clean and fresh when I need to change one.

Motors are expensive and filters are cheap. It is not worth the headache wondering.

It's ok with me, or you could clean the rust off.
