Some problems you just have to keep plugging away at'm. A pillar bearing would have been a good solution but there is no thrust capabilities and the motor still needed to move around.

The stupid thing is that the vendor mechanic said "Sometimes you just have to live with the noise" NOT!.

I seen the Aquadrive at the boat show a couple years ago but it's 6" longer for the up to 45 hp. Although the 35 hp one looks identical to the Python P 30 and is a bit shorter, and cheaper by $250. But since Capt'n Mike is your buddy I went with him. Besides no taxes or shipping, the in-laws picked it up on their way down. Is he gonna give ya a kickback?

It works! Even though it's still on the hard I ran the motor and tranny at full speed in fwd/rev. And not a peep out of the shaft and the PSS ran perfectly straight. I'll be launching Thursday.

I figure it'll last me the rest of my life w/o having to do anything more but general maintenance!

I doubt I'll get a commission on your sale. Cap'n Mike is a good guy. Plenty helpful.

Actually I think it was my ole' Grandpa who used to tell me: "Never trust a man with a clean workshop, he's not busy 'nuff to be any good!" or somethin' like that.

It was 3/8" 304 SS plate, 3/4" marine ply, epoxy, mahogany corner fillets and a couple layers of 6 oz. fiberglass. I believe it would take a couple good wacks with a 10# hammer to bust it up.

I also planned down the beds 4º and added 4" to the front.

BTW In your picture above, I could use that drill. I need to put in a new thruhull for the septic.

Now you've opened a can-o-worms.

There is no wage that is worth what one can do for himself. It's kind of a math dilemma. Does one cut his own grass or pay someone else to cut his grass?

e.g. If I work for some cheap employer for $30 an hour, and I have to pay someone $60 an hour to do work for me, Then I loose $30 an hour of wages in a given time and have to work twice as much for the same results (the employer takes my time).

So, in that given time, if I do the work myself, I've gained $30 an hour worth of work and lost $30 an hour of wages, which is basically the same as above.

Except, I don't have to pay taxes on that $30 an hour wage. I don't have to pay the mark up on the products used. I know the quality of work I'm getting. I can finish the job much sooner because I'm not on a 9 to 5 job (no overtime pay). The drive is less of a distance to the boat then to work. And, I don't have to get up too early in the morning and deal with a bunch of fellow employees!
Make sense?

If someone were willing to pay me $60 an hour I might come out of retirement once in awhile but the demand is not out there!

The prerequisites are you need to have a source of funds to cover living expenses. One way is to get the living expenses down to what one can stand comfortably. IAW No debt! And, don't take on more work then one has time (priorities).

Another worm for your can.....If your out cruising and an opportunity to make 30.00 per hour to ply your craft and help out a fellow cruises boat...do you

a) Politely refuse the offer knowing that your worth twice that amount of money?

or

b) Jump on the chance to show off and make a few bucks.................................. from an old friend?...

I'd have to go with "b". For if I were out cruising I wouldn't need to work on my own and could probably use the extra cash.

BTW I don't work when I drink, or visa versa, it takes me twice as long to get the job done. Unless I don't care about the time and just enjoying the environment/company. That's why it took me so long to finish the cockpit project.

Yanmar has soft mounts, according to several 'gurus' I've asked.

Currently i am contemplating buying a new -to me- boat with an old volvo engine. hmmm, will I ever learn ?

Del - You are definitely missing the point. I don't want to pay you $60 per hour. I want to be your friend because you already established you won't work for your friends.

Del one thing that I didn't see in your economics of work is the "psychological" economics of work. To me it seems like you enjoy your work and take pride in a job done to an extremely high standard. How does that fit in?
