injector pump problem

Ahoy there we're in Indo headed for Kupang & have no fuel to no 3cly, line from pump to injector & fitting where line to injector connects to the pump are not blocked. We're told no injector pump service in Kupang. Has anyone had any success blowing a blockage in an injector pump through with air & if so how or anyother solutions to this problem. Thanks Ian Gotcha Covered

Hi Ian, you cant clear any injection problem with air.... Firstly to deal with the problem, I need to know the type of pump, is it an inline pump, or a rotary DPA type pump. If it is an inline unit, ie. the individual injection pipes are in a line next to each other, the problem is much simpler. Firstly, you may have to remove the unit from the engine to get access to the side cover plate. If you do, mark the exact position of the pump to engine, for the correct timing. ( NO CHANCE OF GUESSING AFTER). take off the side cover plate and check that the offending pump element is not stuck in the up position. To do this, turn the coupling end, one complete revolution (write down the number of turns and direction, to get back to original position). You should see each element, rise and fall as you turn. If it is stuck, the only way to release it, is remove the top retaining assembly carefully, and with an exact size steel pin, gently but firmly tap down once. If it dosent go down the first time try again a little harder. make sure that one of the other pump elements is in the up position whilst you do this. Absolute cleanliness is essential during this procedure. IF the element moves, success. Reassemble and run. CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER. it is a minute speck of dirt or water which caused this problem. If it didnt move, you will have to get the pump serviced with a new pump element as soon as you get somewhere. There is no other way, except with a spare injection pipe, replace the top retaining assembly, without the internal valve and spring, connect the spare pipe between the offending connection and another, turn the pump. The hydraulic action of the trapped fuel may release the element. h the boat.
