Injector leaking.

I have a westerbeke 33 hp engine and the injectors are leaking.

The arrow show where it is coming from, all 4 of them are leaking, i did try to tight them up but it dident stop it.

Wondering if the bottom gasket is still good since it was wet also.

My question is what should i do should i take it off or i can fix it like
that ? Maybe use teflon and tight them real good ?

I want to think that is a flare fitting and if so the seal is metal to metal.
I would not use Teflon tape, but all four leaking actually has me stumped.
I'd be very careful just trying to tighten them, that often leads to something you don't want

I strongly suggest you do not use teflon tape or any other type of pipe dope.

Do you have a flare wrench to fit the nuts? They will help to distribute the load when tightening but don't reef hard on them. I would start by taking one off and figuring out what you can do to stop the leak. Just work with one to start with and when you get it figured out you can work with the others.

If the nuts are tight and leaking, there is a good chance the flair on the end of the line is bad.

I would hold the bottom hex and loosen and then re-tighten the top. If that don't work, you will need new lines.

They look pretty chewed up, been bleeding the fuel system?

Yep. The engine manual may provide torque values. If they're torqued to appropriate values and still leaking... then maybe parts replacement is the next step.

They are chewed up because we did tight them pretty good.

What are the real-world chances of all four of them starting to leak at the same time?

It could well be that your attempts to tighten them has torqued the base of the entire assembly and cause IT to leak, rather than the individual injectors.

Consider that, although I do admit I am not familiar with that particular assembly on your engine.

In your post you say all 4 injectors are leaking,though the photo shows the injection pump and arrow to banjo line feeder bolt.

Injectors screw directly into cylinder/head.

which IS IT.???

If pump line connections,may just need reflare or re"double flare".Possibly copper washers...same with injectors at cylinders,or all just may be loose though I doubt it.Often older pumps could use a thorough o-ring kitting and/or rebuild to end leaks.

I suggest diesel mechanic just to take a look !

Double flares on steel tube can often be fixed by simply putting the existing flared end in the flaring tool and doing the final flaring step once again. .Make sure the threads in the flare nut are good while you have the line out. If the flare to thread fitting coming out of the pump is bad in any way simply replace.


Flare wrenches are almost mandatory to properly torque steel flares.No lube, no dope, no Teflon.Just clean threads.
I suspect someone has turned the flare nuts into oval flare nuts by using open end wrenches. If this is the case, you may need to start over with new lines and nuts but I have successfully straightened a few with the judicious use of a hammer and the anvil.

They are not brake lines here, guys. It's not a simple double flair.

The nuts are not thin brass, they are thick steel and don't need line wrenches.

They ARE the injectors, that send the fuel to the nozzles in the cylinder head.

The lines can fail from years of 20,000 pound, pulses.

To the original poster, are you sure they all leak or is one spraying on the others. I had to slip cardboard between mine, to find the fine mist leak.
