I work for a car dealer and have heard it both ways. A64 is right it is usually a belt, but pulley bearings in certain circumstances can sound like a bad belt. Like he said try spraying belt dressing on the belt but at a different pulley so you don't spray it on the "suspect" pulley. If the noise
does not go away then it is the pulley.
The job is relatively straight forward. You should be fine.
