Identification of Yanmar, Please

Hello all,
I am a new, (unplanned) boat owner....
The motor in my boat is an oldish Yanmar straight six.
There is a plate that says... 6dh-t.
It is a brute of an older straight six, but nobody can seem to identify it.
These are used all over south east asia to power 20 meter or so wood hulled fishing boats... I have a million questions about it and have been waiting for yanmar to respond for several days. My Vietnamese is not good enough technically to get the information I need...( I am in Vietnam ) and this engine is in my scuba diving boat....
Any information would be appreciated..

B.T.W. I paid about $6,500 for it, installed. A complete overhaul here costs around $2000. Should I do the over haul now before it goes in the boat ?
Any idea about rated H.P. ? I was given a 12 month warantee with the purchase, if I brought anything newer, there would be no parts or service on our remote island....so I had little choice.

Confirm that this engine has a Turbo.

I know this may sound stupid, but why do you ask ?
It is normally aspirated afaik. Turbos are NEVER seen here in this type of application....The out put as indicated by the plate is about 29 horsepower ? This think is 4 feet long !!!!! 30PS = about 29 HP !!! If it had a turbo I think the out put would be much higher !

Actually, 35PS (PferdeStärke) is 35HP(horsepower), I think you got that mixed up with "Kw" which is now used in Europe. that engine is certainly normally aspirated looking at the RPM numbers. Google search on "6DHC-T" gets a lot of yanmar hits, though.

Hi thanks for the suggestion, I have found no way to access the site, marine diesels site, paid or not...maybe because of my location, some sites block I.P. addresses from some countries...Could you cross post for me ??
The engine gets installed in 2 days, and would like to know if I should over haul it first. I have never seen it run, but it is guaranteed, but I have no interest in wasting time to install, see that it does not run well, then yank it back out for a rebuild...
Or..other ideas ???

Wow! That's a lot of motor for just 35 hp. Mine is half that size and is 39 hp.

What you need is a translator to get onto the Japanese sites and find it there if possible. It's probably not one of their production motors.

As slow as it goes it probably has a lot of torque and you can probably run a lot larger prop then I could.

The reason for the question re Turbo was because usually Yanmar include a 'T' in the engine model number, when it is Turbo assisted.

Hard to understand that this 6 cylinder engine is only 29 <> 35 HP - especially if this is the model used to drive 20 metre (65ft) Fishing Boats which trawl all sorts of nets throughout S E Asia's waters. I would suggest that displacement workboats of that size require no less than 100 HP.

What may determine what you are saying, a I agree with you...Is I did not mention that they are used in tourist boats, no net dragging....these boats are powered by the small four cylinder in the pictures...they are 14 X 3.3 meters..
