In your situation, mostly day sailing with ability to plug in over night , electric may work with or without a genset.

On the other hand, my last boat was a 47' sail catamaran with twin diesel/electric auxiliaries. Each electric motor was about 30 hp powered by a 27kw 240DCV genset. The maiden cruise was from Valdivia, Chile to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. For long term cruising in lightly populated areas straight diesel auxiliaries currently still are more efficient and in most situations a better fit for the job.
