First kudos for updating us on this thread, I and others are learning!!!

May I suggest yellow bolt heads for the valve covers?

Oh yeah.... Thanks for the post quoted above. For a while I was thought you might be a man posting with a women's avatar. But only a women would celebrate an engine rebuild with a new outfit :>)

Not bad for my first diesel.
Do you have tape or caps on those fuel delivery valves on your injector pump? I would hate to see you go to all the trouble of doing an overhaul only to be stymied by a bit of grit in your pump.

Re: I was Bored so Pulled the Head on my Yanmar

Well I hope I have my head on right....

Got the head installed and torqued. Did it in 10 ish pound steps, so got a work out too. Boy 79 foot pounds is right a the tip top of what I can do. Way too much fun.

I must say that adjusting the valves and servicing the engine while its in the cockpit is soooo much easier then doing boat yoga contortions down below.

Put the flywheel housing on too and a few other things. Next will be the exhaust manifold and engine mounts, flywheel and transmission. Then finish up with the oil and fuel lines. Hope I don't end up with too many spare nuts and bolts..

Really the purple looks pretty good. Maybe Yanmar will adopt it for their new engines. Or gee, engines color coordinated with the engine bay.

Re: I was Bored so Pulled the Head on my Yanmar

awesome, sailorchic---lol we are doing mine in place, alignment as well as wtf --we found many lil wickednesses as we tore into stuff---we not going into head, methinks, unless i find a compression tester , but so far---all hoses, exhaust, fuel lines, all ancillary stuff outside engine are toast...lol...what 3 yrs of cruising a derelict boat can do to itself....so....we may still be here in barra when you finally leave sf--look me up----is a decent place for repairing major systems...mine will be the boat of no definitive color scheme(too many colors to count)....lol....and granny klampett on bow in her rocker, which i think she is slightly off, at present....lol

btw--lady, you rock---i wish i could still repair my own engine and systems...i have to hire out, as my hands dont cut it.....

oh yes--there is a surplus of purple paint here and same with hoochie momma shoes....lol....unfortunately, no single males of any kind of attractiveness--i see abusive aryans, unknowns, light loafers, and marrieds here, only, so far, but it is a great place to fix a boat.....

Re: I was Bored so Pulled the Head on my Yanmar

Well the second day of install is done and the engine is pretty much all together except for the alternator and water pump">raw water pump. Still need to mount the flywheel, damper plate and transmission and then it will be ready to drop back in.

Getting excited that soon the engine will be re installed and I'll be back to a more mobile life...

I wasn't sure about the purple but it does look a lot better in the sun. The pink fuel lines are a nice touch.

You know I thought about that. I still could, but thought it might distract from the pink fuel piping. I still have plenty of pink. Though the purple can O paint is empty.

My problem is I'm barely adequate with a spray can. My artistic ability pretty much was maxed out by about age 4. Though flowers and a butterfly would be nice..

Right back at ya...
