Re: I HAVE NO ENGINE!!

Your boat has three engines? Can't you remove two of them, and rebuild the third?

LMAO... I'll assume thats tongue in cheek...
Un-marinised version... over this side we have had older home built boats with Ford Anglia car engines in them...
Way back when... days of Maurice Griffith builders...

Re: I HAVE NO ENGINE!!

I think he's referring to a non-marinised Perkins, like the ones they used in Massey-Ferguson tractors. I think marinising an engine like that might be a chore. You'd have to replace the radiator with a heat exchanger and then construct a wet exhaust system- not so bad, maybe. But then you'd have to locate a gear box and shaft coupler. By the time you did all that...

If you shop around on ebay, Craigslist, and other Internet sources for a couple of months, you ought to be able to find a marine engine in your price range that you can make work.

Re: I HAVE NO ENGINE!!

You might find an engine in that price range but probably be older and pretty used. If you're a mechanic why not take that money and rebuild one of the engines you have?

If you can figure out who made the block and avoid buying Westerbeke brand overpriced parts the 4-107 would be a good option.

Re: I Have No Engine!

If you are a mecahnic, rebuild the 4-107. Nice thing about the 107's they have replaceable wet sleeves...Try Foley engines:
"
Rebuild Parts. Want to do it yourself?
Foley can help! We stock complete engine parts kits to rebuild your 4107/8 engine. These kits are very complete and besides the usual parts, have the correct marine piston (there is a difference), the innovative rear seal we developed, a free Workshop Manual, a can of Perkins blue spray paint, etc. For the 4107 we even stock the correct wet liner! Not only do we have the most complete engine overhaul parts kits on the market, we also stock the rest of the parts you will need. Parts like remanufactured 4107/8 heads. Unfortunately, many Perkins 4108 heads crack. This is ideal for someone on a budget who doesn't want to run around picking up parts (and maybe even having to return wrong ones) from four different suppliers. Foley can price out for you right to the penny the total parts cost of your Perkins marine engine overhaul: engine overhaul parts kit, cylinder head and fuel injection system."

Re: I Have No Engine!

Here's one listed on eBay in Pearl River LA. May be close enough to go look. Does appear very rough in the photos but starting bid is $1000 and seller claims it runs. Blue color so guessing a Perkins.

Seriously wondering why your boat has been through 3 powerplants...

Seems like dropping in a used tired engine that somebody removed will make #4 in short order...

I second... and third... Cheechako on rebuilding one you have...

Also check out florida Creigslist. Search all of Florida daily. But rebuilding an engine that you already have seems like the best approch. Putting a $1000-1500 engine in, is just stupid unless you rebuild it first.

Re: I Have No Engine!

Aloha and welcome to the forum of many opinions.

If you have an old Perkins that can be rebuilt and you can find a Perkins from a forklift or tractor (terra Perkins) you could use the marinized parts from your old Perkins to fit on the newly acquired land based Perkins.

I've done that with a Mercedes. It works.

kind regards,
