Hurth HSW 800 A2 transmission stuck in reverse

The port engine died during a slow cruise. During slow manuvering I discovered the port transmission stuck in reverse. When the port engine was restarted the reverse port side was engauged. The transmission appears to shift by looking at the movement of the shift linkage. The oil and filter are in good shape change less than 25 hours. Any suggestions where to start to trouble shooting this problem?

Start by looking at the connection between the shift lever and the shaft that goes into the transmission to see if it has come loose.

Can you tell me where I can find info on that transmission. I searched internet but could not find any info on web. How is the linkage connected? How precise does the connection?
Thanks for your help.

This manual might help.

Stick your head in the bilge and have a look see. If it is a tight fit use a flashlight and a mirror.

The manual is very helpful. I did "stick my head in the bilge" but didn't know what the heck to look for.

Re: Hurth HSW 800 A2 transmission stuck in reverse

I just took possession of a Saturna 33 w/ a hurth tranny. returning from our maiden voyage, the transmission stuck in forward coming in to the marina. We bounced off two boats. Upon examination the shifting mechanism (behind panels on the binnacle) had worked loose. I tightened the offending bolts, but am left with what caused it to stick (or catch) preventing the reverse gear to engage?
