Hurth 150 Transmission Oil Temperature

I want to add an oil temperature gauge to my Hurth 150 transmission.

I have figured out how to mount the sensor but do not know what the maximum temperature oil I will need to measure.

Does anyone know what the normal oil temperature is for this transmission so that I can select the right sensor and gauge.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Hurth 150 Transmission Oil Temperature

Depends on the lubricant and change frequency more than the mechanicals.

Transmission oil starts breaking down more quickly at temps above 175, but as high as 275 is allowable, ideally only for short periods. Damage to internal transmission components can occur above 300.

If you do regularly run temps above 175 more frequent fluid and filter changes are required.

I’m thinking of doing the same. Where did you end up mounting the sensor? Did it work as you’d hoped?

Re: Hurth 150 Transmission Oil Temperature

Per ZF Marine, normal operating temps should be between 122 F & 212 F. Temps up to 266 F can be tolerated for short periods. In my opinion if you are seeing 200 F consistently, you should be changing your fluid more often than prescribed.
