How to Replace Diesel Tank in Brewer 12.8

I am considering buying a Brewer 12.8 which has a leak in one of its diesel tanks. Before I travel half-way across the country to inspect the boat, has anyone had experience with this repair? Are the tanks straight forward to remove?

Thanks in advance to the esteemed think tank.

Aren't Brewer 12.8s custom or semi-custom builds? That would affect the answer, because the access to the tanks might be easy, or might involve sabre saws.

In my experience, not many tanks are easily removed for the very good reason that the structural members of the boat themselves are part of their being kept in place.

They were semi-custom built. Are there 2 aluminium tanks of 50 gallons each? I have not heard one way or another on the Brewers in regards to the difficulty of replacement. No doubt someone out there in this esteemed think tank will know better.

If you are interested in 12.8's, please feel free to inquire with me into the one in Fort Pierce:

The port tank is reasonable to replace. The centerline tank requires major invasive surgery.

Our Brewer 12.8 had the port tank replaced by the previous owner. The centerline tank is bad and we are looking at options. We may either install a flexible bladder tank in that space or we may reduce the size of the 200 gallon water tank to 160 gallons and put a 40 gallon fuel tank there. The water tanks are pretty easy to get to.

Let me know if you have other Brewer 12.8 questions and I'm happy to help.
