How Do I Perform a Bucket Test on Engine

I want to perform a bucket test after my primary filter but before my secondary filter on the Yanmar 4TH. How do I do this without letting a lot of air in the system?

Hook up a clear plastic line on a fuel bulb and pump the fuel from a NEW 2 quart mixing bucket up to the secondary filter. Pump the fuel bulb until all the air is out of the clear line. Open the vent until all the air is gone on the secondary fuel filter and then start the engine. I just did this on my Perkins Prima and it worked perfect.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a "bucket test"?

Eliminating the fuel tank and running the engine off of a separate, clean fuel supply.

As long as you don't crank the engine over while the fuel tank is disconnected all you need to do is bleed the secodary filter.
