HELP !! Teleflex neutral safety start switch

I've searched the archives without success. I have a 2000 Yanmar 4JH3TE in a French built Jeanneau. Pretty sure (forum posts confirm my suspicion) that I have a bad NSSS. BUT WHERE IS IT PHYSICALLY LOCATED? I've searched at both the shifter mechanism on the helm and at the transmission linkage on the gear box???? I need to adjust or jumper it since I am stuck at anchor in the Florida Keys between Key West and Marathon ... HELP PLEASE

The Neutral Safety Switch is part of your shifter.

Re: HELP !! Teleflex neutral safety start switch

Hello Gord. Thank you for the prompt reply. I have a Teleflex shifter and your suggested parts are for a Morse shifter. Has the manufacturer had a name change? Also, I took apart (best as I could) the combing to see the rear of the shifter, and saw two cables (transmission and throttle I assume) but no obvious electrical wires. Hence my confusion. I'll look again. I understand the NSSS renders the starter inoperable ... where would the wires from the NSSS go ... I could jumper at that end absent finding the actual NSSS.

Re: HELP !! Teleflex neutral safety start switch

Not sure about your setup but my neutral start switch is mounted on the transmission and if one of the wires comes loose or disconnected you have your condition.

Re: HELP !! Teleflex neutral safety start switch

I have Morse Teleflex in a Whitlock pedestal. There is a microswitch in the shifter in series with the starter key switch to the starter relay.

Re: HELP !! Teleflex neutral safety start switch

My previous boat had two Neutral Safety Switches. One was on the Teleflix shifter as described above, the other was on the engine - a routine Honda 4. The wire came off the Honda and the Teleflex was never part of the system - it was just there.

I connected the Teleflix switch in the starting circuit and everything went well.
