Help identifying Volvo

Can anybody tell me the model number of this engine? The ID plate is unreadable and the engine is on a remote island so I need to be sure I take the right bits.

Re: Help identifying Volvo

The engine is a late model version of the TAMD31. If you can't read the label on the black electrical box on the top of the engine, there is a brass plate riveted to the side of the engine block containing the engine model, the specification number and the serial number. The plate is usually found below the injection pump, near the block/ oil pan junction.

Re: Help identifying Volvo

Well for sure the engine is a TAMD 31, and probably more specifically a TAMD31P-A, as that was the pleasure boat version of that vintage 31 series engine.

When you get back to the boat, try to lightly polish the ID plate with fine steel wool. The numbers were stamped into the brass plate and will probably show up.

Re: Help identifying Volvo

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I'm guessing I have enough info now for what I need (starter and alternator)
