Heat exchanger

O.K., here's a question I hate to asked because I'm going to look a complete idiot..... I did an oil change on my diesel engine. The oil filler on the top of the tappet cover and the fresh water filler on the heat exchanger are side by side and, yes, I put about half a liter of oil into the heat exchanger before I realized 'wrong hole!!! I immediately sucked out all the oil and most of the water with a little electric pump via the filler hole and am confident that I got all the oil, considering that the oil floats on water. But what do I do now? I am thinking that some sort of engine/heat exchanger flush might be in order.

Well if you are gonna make a mistake, that's the one to do. The other way around is a pain in the patoootie.

I wouldn't panic but you can "float" the oil out by overfilling the water (slowly) and letting it catch in the bilge - a bit messy.

You could drain the water - potentially also messy.

You could decide that you got about all of it with the siphon and not worry about it any longer.
