GM Tool for bleeding Kohler Genset?

So the Kohler 5ek Genset manual tells me to rep[lace fuel filter and then bleed the system using a $40 GM Bleeder Tool? Seems to fit on a fuel bleed nipple.

Anyone know what this tool is and if I really need to get one just to change a fuel filter?

This genset was running last year, has 27 hours on it (2003 model) but won't fire up for me. Turns over fine but no go.

I plan to change the plugs and the fuel filter next. (Has fresh gas and no water in the trap).

I'm afraid I am not much of a mechanic!
