Generator stalls, suspect fuel related problem

Northern lights generator stalls. Impeller, V-belt, fuel and coolant all OK. I suspect a fuel related problem. What could be the most common thing to fail and how should I tackle this. Your help is appreciated.

G'day,
Could you please supply more details leading up to the engine stalling, is it sudden stop when a load is applied or a gradual slow down untill stoppage occurs.

Thankk you for your reply. The Genset runs like it wants to full force but cannot. I dies after it tries for less than a minute.

Have you checked the fuel filters?

My guess is fuel filter or pump. I would try filters first; it could also be a blocked pick up from the tank.

Many of those small fuel pumps have a screen on the input side that can get blocked up.

Re: Generator stalls, suspect fuel related problem

My guess is DeepFrz is right. Just start checking the fuel delivery system from the fuel pump through the filter system right back to the pickup in the fuel tank. Doesn't take much to block off enough fuel to starve the engine. Cheers, Phil

Re: Generator stalls, suspect fuel related problem

An easy way to see if you have a fuel delivery problem is to see if you are getting any return to your tank, while running. If you should be getting a fuel return, but aren't, you know it's a delivery problem.

Re: Generator stalls, suspect fuel related problem

If this is a gasoline engine, add to your list to check the automatic choke. I once found on my 7.5KW Kohler that the axle shaft (or what ever its called) that supports the butterfly valve was frozen. It would allow the engine to start but it was starved for air.
