Up until last week I was delighted with my engine (owned boat for 6 years and engine probably original from 1980) but after 2 hours following oil and filter change found a sump full of grey emulsion. Yes water in oil but where from. Looked at obvious before stripping engine and found nothing. Took head off and gasket, while discoloured in places looks OK. Now looking further!!!!

I'm in the UK and contacts for parts/new/second hand would be usefull if anyone can help! Roy

Water in the oil? Check your heat exchanger if it is a fresh water cooled version.

Thanks for that but I have looked there and on my installation there is no oil in the heat exchanger and the ony way I can see it getting back from there is via the exhaust which would have hydauliced and bent the con rods which does not appear to be the case.

I thought it may be the oil cooler but in marinising it looks as though they threw it away!!

The heat exchanger is fitted to the head in such a way I cannot remove it with standard tools. The engineer who has it now to do a pressure test on the head hopefully has better tools than I do!!!

There are signs a small core plug may have blown. All sent to try us and get in the way of sailing!!!
