Gallons / Hour Discussion

How many gallons per hour does your engine get?

I will start!

I have a 325Hp Isuzu
pushing a 34 ft 10 ton boat at 13.5 knots I get approximately 4 Gal/hr.

I used to live on a boat with a Yanmar I think it was a 3gm30f propelling a 10 ton 38 ft hull at appx 6knots I think we would get appx .5 gal/hr. Does that sound right or am I dreaming?

Sounds about right to me, without doing the math. Fuel consumption goes up dramatically with speed on non-planing hulls.

my formosa uses approx .8 gal per hour. i have a perkins 4-108. i run it at approx 2200-2500 rpm and attain 5-6 kts without breezes. with breezes, she gets more efficient, as i turn off the engine and run with the wind.

I get about .7 to .8gph with my OM636 diesel without pushing it into the red, so the .5 sounds in the ball park

Re: Gallons per Hour Discussion

I think something must be seriously wrong with mine. I have a Yanmar 20ymsomething with roughly 1000 hours on it, I run it at 26-2800 rpms and I use 1.5 gallons/ hour! It runs great just burns a lot of fuel. Could a feathering prop cause such a large increase in fuel consumption?
