FWC Yanmar 30hp

Previous experience with 3 raw water cooled yachts, no experience with fresh water cooled. Like the specs of a yacht with the above fwc engine.Would this be suitable for cruising Bahamas/ Caribbean? Presume there is a fresh water holding tank for this purpose. As this is recycled how is it cooled? Advise, info please.

Clyde,

Fresh water cooled is the same as your automobile. It has a closed cooling system which is then cooled by the seawater. In your car the closed cooling system is cooled by your radiator. There is no need for any kind of external holding tank.

it's called a heat exchanger and it circulates the hot engine coolant inside the cooler raw water. this requires 2 pumps .. raw and fresh. this avoids salt water in the engine block.

fwc yanmar 30hp

Thanks gentlemen for the input. I had a heat exchanger on my first yacht so it obviously was fwc. She sailed from SA to the Caribbean including 3 days motoring thru the doldrums, so no problem for extended cruising. Have researched heat exchangers now on the intenet and brain has cleared. Thankyou.
