fuel tank material

I have a Cal 34 and will be replacing my fuel tank. Any recommendations on the type of material? I am leaning toward a pre-fab plastic tank to avoid corrosion and welding seam issues.

I would agree, but think maybe Monel is best, but ain't cheap.
Good rotomolded tank ought to last a very long time, almost all cars have had plastic tanks for a long time?

If you shop around you can find a plastic tank that will probably fit pretty well. You might loose some fuel quantity but that's better than a leak anyday. There are a lot to choose from too and they will put fittings anywhere you want them.

Re: fuel tank material

I replaced my aluminum diesel tank after 25 years due to pinhole leaks. I brought the old tank to a tank manufacturing outfit and they duplicated it exactly. I'll be dead before this tank has to be replaced again. Plastic was more expensive than my aluminum replacement. I have no fear of a plastic tank but had no reason to change.
