Fuel tank inspection port recommendation

I have an '86 Newport 33. The fuel tank has no inspection port. The tank appears to be made of a heavy guage plastic. I need a recommendation as to how to install a port. My purpose is to be able to to clean the crud out of the tank. Thanks to all who reply.

Re: Fuel tank inspection port recommendation

I cut open my Moeller Marine polymer tank to install an inspection hatch from Tek Tanks UK this last winter.. The bolts need to be inserted from the inside of the tank and the nuts are screwed on from the outside. I modified the bolts so that it is possible to tighten the nuts without turning the bolts. Hatch is leak-free so far.
Quite scary to cut a big hole in your tank without being sure it won’t leak.
PM me if you need more details.

I'm guessing you emptied the tank first before cutting in to the tank. How big is the inspection port you installed?
